UX & Print Design – "LOOP" UHI Student Feedback Diary
Live Competition Brief | University of the Highlands and Islands
Live Competition Brief | University of the Highlands and Islands
This project was developed in response to a live brief set by the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), which called for an innovative solution to improve how students access, understand, and engage with feedback.
The challenge was to help students identify where and how to request feedback, understand the different types of feedback available, and recognise when they’ve received it.
To inform the design process, I conducted primary research through a focus group and online survey with current students. The insights revealed that feedback is often overlooked, misunderstood, or not easily accessible—and that no single method works for every student.
The final solution was a hybrid physical and digital diary designed to help students actively track and reflect on the feedback they receive. The diary includes features that guide students in identifying the type of feedback, prompting reflection, and encouraging follow-up discussions with lecturers. Research showed that these conversations significantly enhance student understanding and engagement.
Additionally, the digital version of the diary includes an interactive quiz to help students identify their preferred feedback styles, supporting more personalised learning and self-awareness.
Branding was carefully developed to appeal to further education students—particularly those most in need of feedback support—while still aligning with UHI’s existing visual identity. The result is a vibrant, accessible tool that bridges the gap between institutional feedback processes and student needs.
